OUR MISSION
To continue the philanthropic work that George Subraj had focused on during his lifetime. By providing less fortunate individuals with MEDICAL assistance, EDUCATIONAL opportunities, & TECHNOLOGICAL resources to create a better everyday life.
What We Do
Kidney Transplants
The foundation has completed 26 kidney transplants to date. These life saving operations extended time for carefully selected candidates. Most, if not all of these surgeries were done under the supervision of Dr. Rahul Jindal of Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington, D.C. The ultimate goal of the medical team was to teach the Georgetown hospital surgeons to perform this essential surgery on own their patients
Cornea Transplants
While organ donation is still not a common practice in Guyana, the country’s populations, especially in the rural areas, often go without proper vision care and checkups. With the high rate of diabetes many patients are in need of corneal transplants. The foundation buys precious corneas in the US and travels with them in special cooler cases to well deserving candidates in Guyana. As of April 2019, 88 corneal transplants were completed.
Eye Glass Donation
Our eyeglass donation program provides free prescription glasses to patients of all ages, some who had never had an eye exam before. The foundation has held 13 free eye clinics with over 4000 patients and about 10,000 readers and sunglasses distributed across Guyana. The most recent distributions took place at St. Cuthbert’s Mission on Feb 2, 2020 where 280 patients were examined and 420 readers and sunglasses were disseminated and at the Guyana Police Officer’s Training Center where 180 patients were examined and 320 readers and sunglasses were given out.
Pediatric Heart Surgeries
In April 2009, George himself commissioned 8 pediatric heart surgeries for Nirvani Browne, Shalel Griffith, Keandra Daniels, Bharrat Narine, Jenen Henry, Nalini Persaud, Avinash Sonam, Udesh Ragubar
Education/ Technology
Another focus on of the foundation is to improve educational opportunities for any and all deserving students in Guyana and in the US. George firmly believed in enabling people to help themselves. Donations made to the Bel Air primary school including supplies, scholarships, teacher’s tools, books and chalkboards. Donation of 400 backpacks and supplies to students from Hinterland communities. Donation of state of the asrt Computer Center to Sarswattie Secondary School (SVN) , WCD, Guyana. Donation of two School Buses to SVN. Donation of ambulance to Balwant Singh Hospital
SEVAK Program
Sevak: one who is employed to advise and assist in matters of community welfare and development. George and the team have trained countless individuals in rural areas where access to health care is not available to perform routine medical procedures such as oversee blood pressure fluctuations, check insulin levels and monitor weight gain and loss while being on constant contact with doctors. This programs equips the community with much needed equipment and provides an invaluable service that truly embodies the “be good, do good” motto.
